Urgent Call to Help Families Affected by COVID-19

by Admin
Hebron
Free Palestine Melbourne has a friend in Hebron who is raising money, alongside some partners in the US, for families struggling in Hebron.

If you feel like donating, please do.

You probably all know that Hebron was the hardest hit by COVID cases. It has also been badly hit economically – being the largest Palestinian city and the economic hub, as I understand it, there is this perception, even within the West Bank, that Hebron is ok, and the PA isn’t helping much. A few rich families are doing very well, but many families are seriously struggling without tourism – especially domestic tourism from Palestinians within ’48/Israel.

Happy if people have questions too.

Campaign: As UN meets, urge investigation of Israeli apartheid

by Admin

from bdsmovement.net email:

Representatives of governments from around the world are meeting this week at the United Nations headquarters in New York for the UN’s 75th General Assembly (UNGA). Palestinians and supporters of their rights need your help to ensure that the UNGA responds to the Palestinian demand for freedom, justice and equality.

Today, more than 450 global civil society organizations – unions, movements and political parties from tens of countries around the world – released a letter calling on the UNGA and its Member States to launch international investigations into Israel’s apartheid regime over the Palestinian people, and to impose targeted sanctions by all States to stop Israeli apartheid and illegal annexation of Palestinian land.
Apartheid is a crime against humanity, and States are responsible for bringing the illegal situation to an end. The United Nations investigated apartheid in South Africa and imposed sanctions on the apartheid regime there, contributing to ending it. It’s past time for the UN to do the same with Israel.

Make sure UNGA President Volkan Bozkir hears the demand that the UN investigate Israeli apartheid by sharing it on social media

Palestinians and supporters of human rights are organizing a week of action to give visibility to this civil society call opposing Israel’s regime of colonialism and apartheid, and we hope you can join in.
  • Tuesday, September 22nd: Launch of the week of action. Share the open letter to the UNGA and spread this global call for the UN to investigate Israeli apartheid
  • Wednesday, September 23rd: Knowledge is power! Stay tuned and check out the list of resources we will be sharing on social media, and #EducateAgainstApartheid.
  • Thursday, September 24th, 4-6 PM Palestine time: Join a twitterstorm highlighting corporate and government complicity in Israeli apartheid. We will email the tweets with images that day.
  • Friday, September 25th: Launch of video: “Lives under apartheid.”
  • Monday, September 28th: Launch of video “Global Response to Israeli apartheid: Together we prevail.” Look for an email from us that day.
Join us and take action against racism, discrimination and apartheid. Save the date for the Thursday twitterstorm, from 4-6 PM Palestine Time.

In solidarity,
Palestinian BDS National Committee and Free Palestine Melbourne

Did Israel Violate International Humanitarian Law During Operation Protective Edge?

by Admin

by Pat Andriola

An essay from the Emory International Law Review journal.

“On July 8, 2014, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that they had launched “Operation Protective Edge,” a military intervention into the Gaza territory. The IDF stated that the goals of Protective Edge were “aimed to retrieve stability to the residents of southern Israel, eliminate Hamas’ capabilities and destroy terror infrastructure operating against the State of Israel and its civilians.” Less than two months later, at least 2,131 Palestinians had been killed, 1,473 of whom were civilians and 501 children.”

Week in Review

by Admin 0 Comments

It has been a tropubling week for Palestine. I summarize some of the events that have caught my attention: These events include:

Protests of Tel Aviv residents angry that Israeli judge surprisingly rules in favour of NOT demolishing Palestinian house.

Israeli demolition of Palestinian home blocked by High Court

but then a review of the case has been requested. I am not aware of any democracies that allow punishment to extend to the whole family through the demolition of the family’s property.

https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_entry/prosecutors-to-ask-high-court-to-review-ruling-barring-demolition-of-accused-soldier-killers-home/

House demolitions. “Israel has implemented a policy of mass demolition of Palestinian houses in the Occupied Territories,” B’Tselem reports, and since September 2000 “has destroyed some 4,170 Palestinian homes.” Until just recently Israel routinely resorted to house demolitions as a form of collective punishment. According to Middle East Watch, apart from Israel, the only other country in the world that used such a draconian punishment was Iraq under Saddam Hussein. http://normanfinkelstein.com/2006/01/13/economic-boycott-of-israel/

Response to Beinart article “I No Longer Believe in a Jewish State” from conservatives very damning, no chance of two parties living together and resigned to a necessary apartheid but no shame in calling it such either.

Unbalanced response to incendiary balloons, yet again!! Social media showing images of balloons alongside fighter jets and bombings of Gaza. In the meantime, little mainstream media coverage although there is some activity on other social media channels such as Twitter and Instagram. Apart from the ‘light’ bombings, other measures imposed further plummet the people of Gaza into destitution: no power, further movement restrictions etc.

“A statement from the fire service says most of the blazes were small and didn’t pose any danger.”

UAE/Israel alliance condemned by many nations. UAE quickly (within a few days, no less!) moves to stifle any dissent and jails many!

In an interview with Dr Norman Finkelstein On UAE-Israel Normalization, the issue is discussed along with the implications for the ICC case against Israel.

Constant surveillance: Israeli drones over Gaza

by Admin 0 Comments

sign the petition

For Israel, the world’s biggest exporter of these population-control military machines, the testing of spy drones in Gaza brings great profit.

Palestinians in Gaza speak about the trauma and fear they feel being under constant surveillance by Israel’s drones.
